A step-by-step tutorial that will have you create 3 expressive paintings in 2 weeks, so that you'll gain a solid foundation for brave and vivid acrylic layering process!

Do you want to paint originals that capture playfulness and improvisation, but feel intimidated by starting? Are you bored with traditional instruction that doesn’t tap into your sense of color adventure?

Introducing “Negative Beauty” - a self-paced acrylic painting workshop that helps you design your spontaneity!

In this course, you will learn how to build up a painting in a layered, bold way, by focusing on negative space - a lively approach to defining your objects!

Uninhibited painting method still needs a plan - and that plan involves color choices, composition, value definition. Negative space is never empty - it supports the subjects of your piece! In easy-to-digest videos, I will walk you through my entire process of creating 3 original works of art, using the magic of painterly backgrounds to define stories of our objects. Additionally, you will learn about materials, surface preparation, complementing hues, process of sketching from a photograph, and what makes a painting “come alive”.

This is a view into the development of my personal painting style - but better yet, it is also a recipe for you to work towards your own! By the end of this course, you will have a template for expressive depiction of things that are unique to YOUR experiences. You don’t have to be a professional to produce colorful, captivating works - you just need a strategy that leads to lots of fun experimentation!

  • I have never painted with acrylics before. Is this workshop for me?

Yes! Exploration of colorful underpainting and negative space is a GREAT way to get into creating acrylic pieces. The process is simple enough to avoid intimidation and push through that famous “fear of blank canvas”. Yet, you can increase the level of your paintings’ complexity as you start to gain experience.

  • I have been painting for many years. Is this workshop for me?

Yes - IF you are looking for a fresh approach to your acrylic works and are excited to try new techniques. Many seasoned painters get “stuck” in their current style and need instruction, from time to time, that helps them explore outside of it. I, myself, take online painting classes from other professionals whose process greatly differs from mine.

  • What materials will I need?

For painting, you have to get set up with paint, brushes, sketching tool, painting surface (such as canvas), and palette (paper will do). Please note that the cost of materials is not included in the workshop, but once you have them, they can be used for many future pieces, not just your creations from this course. Detailed materials list is included with the class - email me at stasiamak@gmail.com if you'd like to get a copy of this file before signing on to the workshop! Each painting in the course uses 3-4 brush sizes, 7-10 colors, 1 canvas (or panel), and for sketching I recommend white charcoal pencil. The total amount of paint colors for all 3 pieces in the list is 17 (with 1 optional).

  • How does this course differ from your in-person studio workshops?

By being WAY more comprehensive (and, well, not restricted by geography, either!). The biggest obstacle we have during our 1-day studio classes is lack of time, because no matter how quickly we go through all the steps of layering a painting, the hours and minutes fly by way too fast. Negative Beauty Online Course goes through every step of creation of not one, but THREE different originals. It also goes more in depth on basic color theory, materials and supplies, and most importantly - you'd get ongoing support for the lifetime of the course!

  • Exactly how LONG will it take me to complete this course?

The average time it takes students to complete all 3 pieces is 2 weeks. Please note that this workshop is self paced, and you have a choice of working on one painting, two, or three separate ones. Everyone's painting speed will differ. But, I highly recommend to not leave very long gaps between each of your painting sessions, so that the process stays "fresh" in your head, and you can build upon it!

  • Do I need a high-speed internet connection to watch the course video?

Yes, all videos are viewable via high-speed Internet (same connection you may use for streaming your online TV shows). Regular broadband internet is sufficient. Unfortunately, at this time, we are not able to provide alternative viewing options for people on very slow connections - please keep this in mind when registering.

  • How long do I have access to the course?

You will have unlimited access to all course instruction, files, and facebook community for the lifetime of the course.

  • What is your refund policy?

I am certain that you will enjoy this workshop, but if it doesn’t meet your expectations, you can request a full refund after “trying it on” - within the first 48 hours of purchase. After that, we are not able to offer refunds - thank you for understanding!

  • I have a question that wasn't answered here. How should I reach you?

Please email your question to: stasiamak@gmail.com. Thanks!
